9/11, Terrrorism, Etc. -- Archive
9/11 was one of the issues and events that accelerated the evolution of my thinking and shaped my current world view. Other issues and events that have influenced me profoundly include climate change (which I tuned into in the late 1990s), the stolen US elections in 2000 and 2004, the Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, Bush's failure to respond before, during or after Hurricane Katrina, the corporatist monopolization of the US mainstream news media (which I have been observing closely over the two decades), and, of course, the catastrophes in Iraq and Darfur.
9/11 was pivotal for me, but perhaps not in the way you would assume. It was not the terrorist attack that surprised me, it was the failure of the US mainstream news media and the political establishment to hold those who looked the other way accountable for their inaction.
Although I respect many of those who raise serious questions about what happened at the WTC or at the Pentagon, and whether or not "9/11 was an inside job," I do not indulge in those lines of speculation or investigation.
As someone who has focused on security, risk and intelligence for most of the last twenty years, it is enough for me to know that the Bush-Cheney national insecurity team came into office, promptly undid what good the Clinton-Gore administration had done, and then proceeded to blow off the dozens of warnings they received in the months, weeks and days prior to 9/11. Furthermore, many of the leaders of the Bush-Cheney cabal are on record as wishing for another "Pear Harbor) in the PNAC document. All of this is a matter of public record. Unfortunately, the 9/11 Commission buried the lead, pulled their punches, and punted on the worse of the truth.
I do not need to know anymore.
